When you don't, they will likely fail. I also think that any distance that's too far to drive in a weekend without being exhausted is too far... unless you're wealthy and have other means of transportation. For me, driving 200 miles to see my boyfriend (now husband) while he was in Austin and I was in Dallas was demanding. It was a little over three hours. I'm not sure we would have lasted had he been in Houston, which is farther. They work when you know WHEN the long distance relationship will end. When you don’t, they will likely fail.
